Yousuf Karsh Collection:
Yousuf Karsh (1908-2002), Canadian portrait photographer, achieved international fame making photographs of "people of influence". He established a studio in Ottawa in 1932. In 1990, art dealer and collector Gilbert Blair Laing (1911-1991) donated a large collection of paintings by James Wilson Morrice (1865-1924) to the National Gallery of Canada. Karsh photographed Laing in association with the exhibition of that collection at the National Gallery of Canada (1990) and across the country (1992-1994). Canadian artist and Group of Seven Member Lawren S. Harris (1885-1970) sat for Karsh in 1946.
The collection consists of 1 framed photograph of Lawren Harris and 1 photograph of G. Blair Laing, at home with his collection of paintings by James Wilson Morrice.
